For God So Loved The World

John 3:16-21

Key Verse 16

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

  1. For context, look at verses 1-15. What have Jesus and Nicodemus discussed so far?

  2. V16. Who does God love? What did He do? What will happen to those who believe in His Son? What does it mean to believe in His Son?

  3. V17-18. Why do you think Jesus clarified that he was not sent into the world to condemn the world? What causes one to be condemned? What does it mean to believe in the “name” of the only Son of God?

  4. V19-20. What did people choose when light came into the world? Why? Consider what a life of darkness and evil works could look like? Why might people still choose a life of darkness over the light?

  5. V21. What does it mean to do what is true? What does it mean to come into the light? What does it mean that someone's works have been carried out in God?

  6. Verse 3:16 says that God so loved the world. What did people love? (19) Why? What can we do to come to the light?

  7. How do you think today's verses are connected to being born again?
