Revelation 3:7-13

Key Verse 3:8

“‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.”

  1. Read v.7. How does Jesus describe himself?

    1. What is the key of David? (See Isaiah 22:20-25)

    2. Jesus says that what he opens no one will shut, and what he shuts no one will open. What kind of power and authority does Jesus have? (See Rev 1:18)

    3. Why is Jesus describing himself in this way for the church of Philadelphia?

  2. Read v.8. What did Jesus do for the church?

    1. What is the open door that Jesus set before the church? (See 1 Corinthians 16:9, 2 Corinthians 2:12-17, Isaiah 45:1-3)

    2. How does Jesus commend the church?

    3. What were their works? (Rev 1:8)

    4. What other doors can Jesus open for us? (Rev 4:1-2, Rev 22:14)

  3. Read v.9. What is the synagogue of Satan?

    1. How was the synagogue of Satan persecuting the church in Philadelphia?

    2. What will Jesus do to those who are part of the synagogue of Satan?

  4. Read v.10-11 How does Jesus commend the church? What does he repeat 3 times throughout the passage?

    1. How does Jesus reward those who keep his word until the end?

    2. What might happen if we don't keep his word? (v.11)

    3. When is Jesus coming again?

  5. Read v.12. What does Jesus promise to the one who conquers?

    1. What is the significance of a pillar in the temple? (See 1 Kings 7:21 Boaz (He establishes) and Jachin (In him is strength))

    2. Jesus says he will write the name of God, the name of the new Jerusalem, and his own new name on the person who conquers. What does this mean for that person?
