The Death of Jesus

Matthew 27:45-56

“About three o'clock, Jesus cried out in a loud voice. He said, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" This means "My God, my God, why have you deserted me?”

Read 45-46.  Why was the land covered with darkness?  What words did Jesus cry out?  Why was he deserted by God?

Read 47-53.  What did the people standing there do for Jesus?  What things happened when he died?  Why was there an earthquake?  Why was the temple curtain torn in two?  What does it show that holy people were raised to life?  What did they do?

Read 54-56.  What did the Roman commander and those guarding Jesus say when they saw all that happened when he died?  Who else was watching?  What had these woman done for Jesus while he was alive?
