The Triumphal Entry

Matthew 21:1-11

Key verse 21:5

“Say to the Daughter of Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”

 Read verses 1-5.  What was going to happen to Jesus in Jerusalem?  How did Jesus prepare for his entry into Jerusalem?  Why did Jesus prepare his entry into Jerusalem as he did?  

 Read verse 5 again.  What kind of King is Jesus?  To whom did he come?  Why might have it been hard for people to ‘see’ Jesus as king?  But why is it important to see him as king and to receive him?

 Read verses 6-9.  Describe the scene of Jesus entering Jerusalem.  What did the crowds shout?  What were the reasons for their praise?

 Read verses 10-11.  How did people react to Jesus’ entry?  Who did they
