You Are To Give Him the Name Jesus

Matthew 1:18-25

Key verse 1:21

“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

 Read verses 18-19.  How must have Mary felt to be pledged to be married to Joseph?  What happed before they came together in marriage?  What did Joseph plan to do?  What can we learn about him?

 Read verses 20-21.  How did God help Joseph to do the right thing?  What does it mean that the son of Mary and Joseph was conceived from the Holy Spirit?  What name were they to give the child to be born?  Why were they to give him the name Jesus?

Read verses 22-25.  What can we learn about God who sent Jesus to fulfill prophesy?  What does it mean that Jesus is also called Immanuel?  How did Joseph obey the word of the angel?
