Then the sons are exempt

Matthew 17:24-27

"Then the sons are exempt," Jesus said to him.

Read verses 24-25a.  Who came to Peter?  What did they ask him?  What was Peter’s answer?  What does Peter’s answer show about him?

Read verses 25b-26.   What shows that Jesus knew what had happened?  What question did he ask Peter?  What was Peter’s answer?  Did Jesus need to pay the temple tax?  Why or why not?  What can we learn about who Jesus is?  

Read verse 27.  What did Jesus tell Peter to do?  What does this story tell us about who Jesus is?  Why did Jesus agree to pay the temple tax?  What can we learn about Jesus who also paid Peter’s tax?
