Jesus Heals a Demon Possessed Boy

Matthew 17:14-23

Key verse 17:20

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Read verses 14-16.  What did a man ask of Jesus?  What was the condition of his son?  How might have the father felt to see his son suffering?  Were Jesus’ disciples able to help this boy or his father?    

Read verses 17-18.  How did Jesus see the problems of this father and son, his disciples and the generation?  Why did Jesus ask, “How long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you?”  What can we learn from Jesus’ words, “Bring the boy here to me”?  How did Jesus heal the boy?

Read verses 19-20.  What did Jesus’ disciples ask privately?  What was Jesus’ answer?  What does it mean that the disciples had so little faith?  What does the example of a mustard seed teach about having faith?  What difference can it make to have a mustard seed of faith?

Read verse 22-23.  Why did Jesus again tell his disciples about his death and resurrection?  What was their response?
