The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast

Matthew 13:31-34

Key verse 13:31

He told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.

Read verses 31-32.  In what way is the kingdom of God like a mustard seed.  In what way does the kingdom of God start out small.  What potential does it have to grow.  What do these verses tell us about how we can build the kingdom of God?

Read verse 33.  In what way is the kingdom of God like yeast?  What else can we learn about how the kingdom of God grows?  What else can we learn about how we can build God’s kingdom?

3.  Read verses 34-35.  Why did Jesus speak to the people in parables (10-17)?  What can we learn through the prophesy about Jesus in verse 35?  What can we learn about God’s words (11)?
