I Am The Light Of The World
John 8:12-20
Key Verse 12: ”Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Look at verse 12. What do you think it means that Jesus is the light of the world? What does it mean to follow Jesus according to verse 12? What is the difference between walking in darkness and having the light of life?
V13-14. What did the Pharisees accuse Jesus of? Why?(13) Why is Jesus’ testimony true?(14)
15-16. How do the Pharisees judge?(15) Why is their way of judging wrong? If Jesus judges, why is his judgment true?(16)
17-20. Why is Jesus' testimony true?(17-18) How did the Pharisees respond?(19) What fundamental issue did the Pharisees have that prevented them from understanding and knowing Jesus?(19)
What did you learn from today’s passage or what stuck out to you?
Note: During the Feast of Tabernacles there was a ceremony called the "Illumination of the Temple," which involved the ritual lighting of four golden oil-fed lamps in the Court of Women. These lamps were huge menorahs (75 feet high) that lighted in the Temple at night to remind the people of the pillar of fire that had guided Israel in their wilderness journey.
