MANIFESTED HIS GLORY

John 2:1-12

Key Verse 11

“This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested His glory. And His disciples believed in Him.”

  1. V1-2. When did the wedding take place? Where was it held? Who was invited? What expectations might people have had for this wedding?

  2. V3-5. What problem arose? Why do you think Jesus’ mother brought the problem to Jesus? What was Jesus’ response? Why did He respond the way He did? What did Mary encourage the servants to do? Why?

  3. V6-8. What were the stone water jars used for? What did Jesus tell the servants to do? What does the phrase, “filled them up to the brim” show about the servants? What did Jesus then tell the servants to do? Why do you think they obeyed?

  4. V9-10. What did the Master of the Banquet say after drinking from the stone jars? What happened to the water? Who knew what had happened and who didn’t? How did the new wine affect the wedding event? Who was honored?

  5. V11-12. What is a sign? What did this sign accomplish? What does it mean that Jesus manifested his glory through this sign of turning water to wine? How did the sign help the disciples to believe in him?

  6. How might the wedding have played out differently if they did not run out of wine? How did the problem of having no wine, and Jesus’ turning water to wine make this wedding special?

    1. Personal reflection: has God ever used a problem in your life as a catalyst for Jesus to do a divine work? Why is it important to have a divine work of Jesus in your life?
