YOU WILL BE MY WITNESSES

Acts 1:1-26

Key Verse 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Read verses 1-5. What did Jesus do during the 40 days between his resurrection and ascension?  What command and promise did Jesus give to his disciples?  Why did they need the Holy Spirit?

Read verses 6 & 7. Compare the disciples’ primary concern to God’s plan about that. In verse 8, what is God’s command and promise for the disciples? What does this show us about Jesus’ hope for his disciples and about his concern for all nations?

Read verses 9-14. What did Jesus do next? Why did he leave them instead of staying to help them (Jn 16:7)? What did the disciples do at the two angels’ advice?

Read verses 15-24. Why do you think Peter stood up and brought up the matter of Judas, the betrayer?  What was the solution Peter suggested and how did he find it (20, Psalm 69:25, Psalm 109:8)? What can we learn about prayer and the word of God in finding direction or solution in our lives?
