MY CHOSEN INSTRUMENT

Acts 9:1-31

Key Verses 9:15-16

15But the Lord said to Ananias, "Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. 16I will show him how much he must suffer for my name."

Describe Saul's actions after Stephen's death. (1-2) Why do you think Saul was not satisfied after Stephen's death and continued to persecute all the more?

Describe Saul's encounter with the Lord Jesus in verses 3-9. What did Saul not know about the Lord? (5) What did Jesus reveal about himself here? (4, 5b) How might this revelation have affected Saul? What direction was Saul given? What immediately happened to him? (8-9)

How did the Lord help Saul through Ananias? (10-19) Why was he hesitant at first? (13-14) Yet, why did he help Saul? Why do you think the Lord used Ananias in this way? What can we learn about helping others in Christ from this event?

What did the Lord reveal about Saul to Ananias? (15-16) What does the Lord's choosing of Saul as his "instrument to carry his name" reveal about the Lord? What does it mean that he would be shown "how much he must suffer for [Jesus'] name"? (16)

What did Saul do in Damascus "at once"? (20) What was the reaction from the people? (21-25) How did Barnabas help Saul when he came to Jerusalem? (26-30) What happened to Saul again in Jerusalem? (29-30) How was the church affected through all these events? (31)
