Read verses 1-3. What is the gospel about? Where does it begin? (1-2a) Who does the author say Jesus is? (1, 3b) 

Read verses 4-8. What did John do to prepare the way for the Lord? (4) How does confessing one’s sins and repenting prepare the way for Jesus? What did John say about who Jesus is and what he would do? (7-8, 4b) 

**        JESUS WAS BAPTIZED AND TEMPTED (9-13)

Read verses 9-11. What happened during Jesus’ baptism? (10-11) Did Jesus need to be baptized by John? (10-11)

Read verses 12-13. What happened immediately after Jesus was baptized? (12) How long was tempted by the devil? (13) What does this tell us about Jesus? 

 

 

**        JESUS CALLS FISHERS OF MEN (14-20)

Read verses 14-15. What did Jesus do after John was put in prison? (14) What was the “good news of God” Jesus proclaimed? (15) What is the “kingdom of God”? How can we prepare for it? (15)

Read verses 16-20. What did Jesus do next? (16) What does verse 17 show us about the purpose of Jesus’ calling? How did they respond?
